Crimes and punishment: 30 Dec 1881 for omitting to serve two summonses dated Dec 22nd and 23rd until Dec 27th and 28th the day prior to [the] hearing in each case, severely reprimanded by [the] Chief Constable 23 Jan 1882 for omitting to serve a summons on the 20th January and not served until 5pm [on the] 21st January, reprimanded by [the] Chief Constable and removed from Court duty 2 Feb 1882 being absent from the 6am parade until 7am on the 2nd February 1882, fined 1 shilling and reprimanded by [the] Chief Constable 21 Jul 1882 being found by the Chief Constable drinking in the Vauxhall Tavern, Hessle Road, at 5.45pm [on the] 20th inst. when on duty, fined 1 shilling and sixpence and reprimanded by [the] Chief Constable 1 May 1883 being absent from duty from 8.45 to 11.45am [on the ] 1st inst. without leave, severely reprimanded and cautioned by [the] Deputy Chief Constable 2 May 1883 neglect of duty and disobediance of orders in not completing and furnishing a report of an inquiry on Saturday night 30th April, and not furnishing the same until 9am on [the] 2nd May, removed from [the] Detective Department and warned as to future conduct by [the] Deputy Chief Constable, confirmed by [the] Watch Committee
Rewards for good conduct: 30 Mar 1881 advanced from the 4th class @ 24 shillings to the 3rd class @ 25 shillings 22 Oct 1881 awarded merit stripe and promoted accordingly from the 3rd class @ 25 shillings to the 2nd class @ 26 shillings 7 Oct 1882 advanced to the 1st class @ 27 shillings
