Crimes and punishment: 16 Feb 1881 promoted to Sergeant and Chief Clerk 29 Nov 1881 reported by the Chief Constable for being the worse for liquor and unfit for duty at 9.30am [on the] 29th instant, also for highly insubordinate conduct when in the Chief Constable's office at the same time and date, reduced from Sergeant and Clerk to 2nd Class Sergeant on street duty for 12 months 13 Sep 1882 reported by Inspector Jones for being ill and unfit for duty on Wednesday 6th inst. such illness having been caused by the Sergeant indulging in intoxicating liquors, he the Sergeant having failed to perform [his] duty from the 6th to the 14th inst., judgement respited for 3 months - at end of which time the Chief Constable to report on his performance of duty - Watch Committee 13 Sep 1882
