| Description | Beat Reports were compiled for the whole of the East Riding. They were made out in triplicate: - one copy was sent to the Chief Constable's Office and one copy was kept at Divisional Headquarters. The remaining copy was kept at the station concerned. Some of the listed reports appear to be the copy that was kept at Divisional Headquarters. The first page gives a full description of the beat including acreage, population, chief industry, the petty sessional division in which it is situated, Parliamentary Divisions. The various headings allowed additional information specific to each beat to be added, such as names of local professionals and dignitaries, information on public buildings and comments about local residents who may have been criminal informants and who may have been likely to offend. Some beat reports include a list of billets which gives the name of the occupier, description of premises, and type of accommodation ordinarily used for officers, men and horses and in an emergency. |
