TitleFile of Home Intelligence reports
Date19 Oct 1942-27 Dec 1944
DescriptionThese reports were produced by the North Eastern Region and circulated to the East Riding Constabulary. They include daily government reports on the opinions, morale and feelings of the British people during World War Two. The Home Intelligence Unit of the Ministry of Information compiled daily reports on the subject between May and September 1940, and weekly reports from October 1940 to December 1944. The aim of the reports was to enable the government to keep in touch with the anxieties and worries of the millions of people who were at the receiving end of policy making. The reports include a general summary, comments upon international events, broadcasting and presentation of news (particular comments are made about the British Broadcasting Corporation), the Home Front (comments upon industry, supplies of food, fuel and clothing, transport and other wartime measures), complaints and rumours.
