TitleTraffic Census file
Date1930-1931
DescriptionThis includes a summary of figures for the February 1930 and July 1930 returns and gives the total number of probable users of the Humber Bridge extracted from the totals of traffic to and from Hull. It also includes a breakdown of the census and the information is also organised by place name and some entries are asterisked as potential users of the Humber Bridge. It also repeats the analysis exclusive of traffic to and from Hull. Also included are the official 'summary' enumerator's forms for the Ministry of Transport (Road Department) with original census of 14 to 21 May 1931 conducted by PC Riley, PC Jacks and PC Nicholson. The format differed in that the classification of vehicles was broken down even more that the previous census. For example it now included 'motor lorries (rubber tyres) four wheel' and 'motor lorries (steel tyres). It also includes a summary of the traffic census taken 15 July 1930 in London to 'enumerate the volume of traffic proceeding from divergent thoroughfares into or across the points mentioned' - and listed are 97 places around London at which the types of vehicle passing were noted.
