Description	Perronet Thompson was born in Hull. The Thompson family lived in what is now Wilberforce Museum in Hull and then built a house on outskirts of Cottingham known as Cottingham Castle, which was destroyed in 1861. He was a sailor, soldier in the Peninsular War, India and the Persian Gulf, Governor of Sierra Leone in 1808-1810 and radical politician. He was elected MP for Hull in 1835 and was a committed supporter of the Chartist movement and the Anti-Corn Law League.
