| Abstract | The purpose of this paper is to rescue the early part of Admiral Sir John Lawson's life from obscurity and to present substantial evidence of his association with Scarborough. He was born in Scarborough, he offered his services and his ship to parliament during the English Civil War, was employed by Parliament as the commander of 'Covenant' of Hull and frustrated Sir John Hotham's plot to hand over Hull to the royalists. Admiral Lawson died in 1665. |
