NotesWilliam Dade introduced this new format of entries in registers shortly after he became curate of St Helen Stonegate, York in 1770 and by 1773 it had spread to other York parishes. The same system was adopted by Bishop Markham in the Diocese of Chester, who brought this new system with him when he was translated to York in 1777. Examples of Dade registers can be found in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
