TitleExcavations at 52 Keldgate, Beverley
Date2009
DescriptionA report on the results of archaeological trial trenching undertaken to the rear of 52 Keldgate, Beverley in April 2001.
AbstractTwo trenches were excavated. The second trench provided evidence for a sequence of activity including a natural watercourse, which formed a boundary ditch in the 14th or 15th century. The area was levelled in the 16th century to allow the construction of two buildings. These were demolished in the 17th century and became an orchard or garden in the 18th or early 19th century. Artefacts and environmental samples provide evidence for cloth and leather working.
