Title | Excavations at Pits Plantation, Rudston |
Date | 2001 |
Description | Report presenting results of an excavation undertaken in advance of the construction of a gas drill-site and access road at Pits Plantation, Rudston in 1995. With specialist reports on prehistoric pottery by T G Manby; the flint assemblage by Peter Makey and soil grain size and pollen analyses by H Chapman and S Ellis |
Abstract | The two ditches of the Rudston cursus were recorded and a section of both ditches was excavated, and dating evidence was recovered from the eastern ditch, which indicated that the cursus was in use during the middle Neolithic period. Pottery shards recovered from pits in proximity to the cursus may have been associated with the constructiona and abandonment phases of this important ritual feature. |
