TitleLate Roman signal station or temple? Functional interpretation at Walkington Wold
Date1985
AbstractBetween 1967 and 1969 excavation was undertaken upon two heavily ploughed barrow mounds on Walkington Wold by the East Riding Archaeological Society. The investigation revealed evidence of occupation in the 4th century A.D., which it was believed indicated the site might be an inland signal stationi. The evidence is also compatible with the functional designation of the site as a religious place.
