TitleReport on the petrological identification of stone axes from Yorkshire
Date1971
DescriptionIncludes a survey of the distribution of stone axes with references to those found in the East Riding
AbstractThe distribution of stone axes provides evidence that the north-eastern sector of the Wolds in an area between Rudst6n and Flamborough was the primary focus of prehistoric settlement in Yorkshire. The area, centered on the parishes of Thwing, Burton Fleming, Rudston, Grindale and Boynton, was the focus for East Yorkshire ritual monuments such as the Rudston monolith. The area was important over a long period of time, having contacts with Wessex and with axe factories in several parts of northern and western Britain
