Title | The boats from North Ferriby, Yorkshire, England, with a review of the origins of the sewn boats of the Bronze Age |
Date | 1965 |
Description | Includes drawings and photographs |
Abstract | The discovery of a boat by one of the authors (E V Wright) and his son, R W Wright, in March 1963 of another in a series of boats from North Ferriby is used as a starting point to review the subject of Bronze Age boats in the light of the new evidence. The authors propose that the design of the boats originated in Egypt or east Mediterranean in the first half of the third millennium B.C. The evidence suggests the sewn boat must have reached Britain by the mid-second millennium B.C. |
