The Waggoners Reserve were formed in the early part of the twentieth century by Mark Sykes of Sledmere House as an answer to his fear of an enemy landing at Hunmanby Gap. They were amongst the first men to go overseas with the British Expeditionary Force. File also includes written notes relating to the character of Sir Tatton Sykes, 5th baronet and a printed pamphlet of the Ceremony of Beating Retreat of the 1st Battalion The Green Howards, 3 Sep 1980.
