Title
Letter from Mrs Johnson to Mrs Mosley (photocopy)
Date
[31 Oct 1866]
Description
Mrs Johnson refers to Thomas Eaton as her mother's brother who had been a surgeon on a slave ship on the coast of Africa. He had married the daughter of the 'King of the place' and she was called [Afira Aggery]. Eaton was obliged to leave her behind when he returned to England where he decided to remain having developed a 'disgust' of the slave trade. Mrs Johnson believes that a son was produced during the marriage and would like to know if he still lived.
