Describes 'general poverty among almost all sorts of people' and the mixed reaction to the Catholic emancipation bill. Refers to 'a people which are called Ranters which have spread in England...call themselves Primitive Methodists, forgetting that all the primitive Methodists are dead.' Mentions he was born near Hull, is married to Katharine and has four sons with another child expected in May.
