AdminHistoryThe Mariners Church was primarily set up to meet the needs of the working class. It was run in association with a Mission to Sailors whose purpose was to visit the vessels in every port, the Sailors' Home and the sailors lodging houses to deliver a religious tract to each sailor in his own language. The Mariners Church in Prince's Dock Street opened in 1828, in a former Independent chapel, with the help of Hull Corporation. The premises were rebuilt in 1834. The Hull Sailors Home was situated in Salthouse Lane but the committee minutes note an address change in Nov 1904 to Alfred Gelder Street. The Hull Mariners Church and Sailors Rest Society was located in Posterngate, Hull. (Information taken from the 'Victoria History of the County of York, East Riding, Volume I, Kingston upon Hull'.)
