AdminHistory | The idea of a long distance footpath stretching across the Yorkshire Wolds from the Humber to the North Sea was first put forward in 1968 by the East Riding Area of Ramblers Association. It was approved in principle by East Riding County Council in Feb 1971 and officially opened in Oct 1982. The Wolds Way National Trail is a 79 mile long footpath starting at Hessle foreshore, passing through Brantingham, North Newbald, Goodmanham, Huggate, Fridaythorpe, Thixendale, Wharram Le Street, Wharram Percy, Wintringham, Muston and ending at Filey. It celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2022. The Minster Way was established in 1980 by Ray Wallis of the Ramblers' Association. It is a 50 mile walking route between the minsters of Beverley and York, which crosses the chalk hills of the Yorkshire Wolds. The route passes through the villages of Arram, Scorborough, Lockington, Bainton, North Dalton, Millington, Great Givendale, Bishop Wilton, Youlthorpe, Full Sutton, Stamford Bridge, Kexby and Fulford. |
