AdminHistory | Arthur John Wadsworth (1874-1930) was born in Goole and educated at Alexandra Street School. He became prominent in public life, sitting on many different council bodies including the General Purposes Committee, Housing and Town Planning Committee, Rating and Valuation Committee and the Education Sub-committee. He was also a member of the Goole and District Migration Committee, Goole Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Trade, the Maternity Home Committee and also a special constable. Arthur John Wadsworth was secretary and an active member of Goole Town Football Club and Goole Athletic Sports Committee. One newscutting noted that 'no honorary position has been unfulfilled by him'. Arthur John Wadsworth died in 1930, aged 56. Arthur Cyril Wadsworth (1900-1987), the son of Arthur John Wadsworth, attended Drax Grammar School and studied engineering. He became an examiner for the Ministry of Aircraft Production during the Second World War. He died in 1987. |
