TitleLetter from Henry Osbaldeston, Hunmanby to Duke of Leeds, London
Date12 May 1794
DescriptionInforming the Duke of arrangements he has made to rent a house in Bridlington for Duke’s family. He is happy to learn of Duke’s approval of resolutions of General Meeting as described in DDX17/25. Is sorry Duke disapproved the limit of 10 miles from the coast being set for the infantry, but points out that the only market town for over 10 miles from the coast is Pocklington, and he is sure the men will not mind marching there if necessary. The 'civil power' would alone deal with any riot raised in the East Riding by the most inflammatory man in the Kingdom. The 10 mile limit was only included to quieten the men’s minds, as they have not forgotten the deceit practised on Napier’s Regiment at the beginning of the German War.
