TitleLetter to William Wetwan from William Booth, Barnstaple, Devonshire
Date14 Dec 1825
DescriptionRefers to the journey to and residence in Barnstaple. Includes 'we saw little of Bath and that little disappointed us.' Refers also to Bristol: 'The neighbourhood of this place exceeds any thing you can imagine of the grand and beautiful scenery. From the rocks above the beautiful village of Clifton we looked down on the Avon, the ships on which seemed diminished to boats.' Describes Barnstaple 'A fine promenade, a quarter of a mile in length, shaded on each side by elms, skirts the bank of the river,...the streets are neither flagged nor lighted, not withstanding that the town contains 7000 inhabitants.' Includes comments on the local farms and price of commodities.
