TitleLetters from Thomas Rex of Danes Dyke Farm, Sewerby, farmer, to William Wyatt and Robert Wyatt of Foolow, Stoney Middleton, Derbyshire, leadmine proprietors
Date1828-1845
DescriptionRelates to difficulties in making a profit out of his farm, and repeatedly seeking a delay in the payment of his rent or seeking a reduction from his landlord Mr Carlisle of Longstone Hall, an overseer of the poor of Sewerby. He often refers to the 'wetness of the seasons'; problems with drainage 'I have commenced soughing, we cannot do many acres at present as we cannot get the tiles, the demand of late has been such that they have been carted away hot from the Kiln'; and the quality of crops 'the yield I fear will be far below average' and he has to sell crops at 'the present ruinous prices'.
In 1836 Thomas Rex pays £220 annual rent.
