Also transcripts (one handwritten and one typescript) of a letter from Ema Scroope dated 9 Sep 1625 to the Lord Lieutenants relating to an order for the defence of the coast 'first that you cause forthwth all the Beacons wthin your Ridinge to bee put in good repayer and persons to be appoynted by you caerfully to watch them. Next that you vieue and inform yorselves what portes or places are in the greatest danger, and untill further order maye bee taken you Cause them to be secured and fortified by all provisions militar that maye on the suddayne bee hade or devised.' The letter was sent to Henry, Viscount Dunbar, Sir John Hotham, Sir Ingylby Danyell, Sir William Constable, Sir Phillip Moncton, Sir Thomas Metham, Sir Christofer Hildyard, Sir Matthew Boynton, Sir William Alphorde and Mr John Legard.
