AdminHistory | James Mills was born in 1831 in London. He moved with his parents to Hull and became a solicitor's clerk. In 1851 he moved to Messrs Shepherd and Crust of Beverley, solicitors, eventually becoming a partner in Crust, Todd, Mills, solicitors. In 1882 he was elected the town clerk of Beverley. He was one of founders of Beverley Permanent Benefit Building Society, and was clerk to the Beverley Borough Magistrates. He died in 1922, aged 90 years. His son J Willis Mills was also a partner in Crust, Todd, Mills of Beverley, solicitors, and followed his father as town clerk of Beverley in 1894, resigning in 1920. He died in 1944. One son was Frank Mills, a local bank manager and chairman of Beverley Race Committee and another son Ernest Mills was a wine and spirit merchant at 'The Push' in the Market Place Beverley. Ernest Mills died in 1957. |
