DescriptionCompiled by William Pakenham whilst as a midshipman. It covers his time on board HMS Cruiser and HMS Alexandria. It gives a detailed daily account of life on board ship and each day gives the 'Courses', wind direction, barometer reading, bearing and distance and 'Remarks'. Under 'Remarks' can be found any encounters with other vessels and the duties expected of a midshipman such as cleaining the ship, trimming sails and making and mending clothes. Also included are some very fine paintings and sketches. He appears to chart his journey around the Mediterranean. Also includes diagrams showing 'the bowsprit on HMS Cruiser', 'the difference in the effects of round and conical headed shot. Also a plan of both 'before and after impact'.
