TitleLetter to Reverend Mr Best, rector of South Dalton, from Charles Garencieres and his nephew T D G Garencieres
Date14 May 1767
DescriptionIncludes:
'Supposing the following Lines have not yet reached you at Dalton please to access & them instead of the News of the Day, and if they serve only to divert your Pain for a few Minutes I shall think my trouble in transcribing them well rewarded' referring to a poem parodying martial verses about the troops leaving the ladies of York with names of friends.
'Let me beseech you, if any of the gallant Blue Officers, whose names I have inserted at full length, be of your intimate acquaintance, not to let them know the author of, this, for if any of them were those of the formidable battle of Minden, I may be called out, which would not please me much, as I don't love fighting at all, having my belly full already; and if they are not the pert Cockcombs, may still, seeing me a cripple'.
