DescriptionIncludes references to having been accused by William Osbaldeston at the last Sessions of preventing him prosecuting [Dusons] for killing Game in the manner he desired; the charge not being true; Mr Thomas Cockerill and Mr John Hodgson brothers-in-law, both of Scarborough, having come with their dogs to Muston to Mr Wests; two brothers of the Wests, one a Master of Ship and one a Butcher got Horses ;Mr Osbaldeston having invited them to dine, Mr Cockerill replied they had already engaged themselves to dine with Mr West that day and all parted good friends; upon this he gave orders to John Taylor, Chief Constable for the Division, to indict the two Wests for killing of Hare or Hares and a Warrant was served; they immediately went to Scarborough and informed Messrs Cockerill and Hodgson; Mr Cockerill was in a bad state of health but Mr Hodgson came with the two Wests to Robinson, he being the nearest Justice of the Peace; the trial at Sessions fineing the men; blame being laid on the Chief Constable and this having happened eleven or twelve years ago
