Title
Letter from Sandwich, Anson and Trentham at the Admiralty Office to the Navy Board
Date
6 Dec 1750
Description
Includes references to an order of 16 Jan 1749 directing the Navy Board not to allow eight articles in the contingent account of the late Vice Admiral Medley, however Mr Groves has told them that the sums were paid to persons employed by the Vice Admiral to gain intelligence of the enemy. These persons ran great hazards in performing this service and were unwilling to sign receipts and a certificate from Mr Villettes, his Majesty's late Minister at the Court of Turin confirmed that a person was sent to Toulon and Merseilles to gain intelligence of the enemies motions and if Mr Grove is willing to sign an affidavit that those sums were correct then directions are given to allow those articles in Mr Medley's account
