'Some causes of fires in 18th century East Yorkshire' by B K Freeborn. Uncontrolled settlement fires were a chief physical hazard faced by town dwellers in the 17th and 18th century. Before the lack of widespread fire insurance many people made recourse to the quarter session courts. The cause of fires was often contained in these settlements. Reports from the 'York Courant' also give causes of fires.
'I remember it well': six medieval Holderness inquests' by Joe Santantiello. In the Middle Ages proving the year of birth or claiming one's birthright was done through a legal process of inquests. In the calendar of inquisitions post mortem volume 10, there are six Holderness inquests claiming birthrights. They are Joan de Thorp, John le Conestable, William de Ros, William de Ulram, Richard de Roos and John de Botheby.
