Title'Proofs of descent' of the family of Langdale, being copies (19th century) of transcripts and extracts from records in the custody of William Langdale, esquire, Lanthrop (Langthorpe) in 1641
Date19th century
DescriptionThe first four pages are occupied by a pedigree of the family of Langdale, formerly of Etton, Houghton, Sancton and Easthorpe, now of Langthorpe and North Dalton (temp. John-1641), deduced from such records.
A series of transcripts and extracts follows, some accompanied by drawings of seals. The references given here are those given to the records in the left-hand margins of the book (e.g. DDCC/149/A1 etc.). Some of the deeds have been published in 'Etton, an East Yorkshire Village', by T W Hall (1932). The deeds dealt with by him were then among the collection of Lord Downe, now (1969) deposited in the North Riding County Record Office.
At the end of the book the Langdale pedigree is continued, showing connections with families of Sturmye, Acton, Kingesman, Acton, Bromfleet and Thirkeld.
Enclosed in the book (following p38) is a 6pp. section of notes on 'Bulmers' Pedigree' (c.1100-1492) and 'Nevils' Descent' (1066-1374). It appears incomplete.
