DescriptionBetween Master Robert of Barton rector of Hausham and Sir William le Conestable concerning the common pasture Robert claims as belonging to his church of Hausam relating to William grants that Robert and his successors shall have pasture, in his demesne pasture called Yaland, for 4 beasts whether William and his heirs depasture that pasture or not. William may inclose the pasture with a ditch, or in any way which seems better, to improve it, but Robert shall have the above pasture rights in it with free entry and exit. Robert and his successors shall have pasture for 8 beasts in the common called Bringtiges where the beasts of the free or other men of the town of Hausamhave pas ture, according to the custom of the town and whenever the others pasture there.
Robert and his successors shall have no pasture rights in any other pasture where the free men or villeins of Hausam have their common; and they quitclaim to William all their rights and claims to other pasture accordingly. Dom William of York, provost of Beverley and patron of the church of Halsham has added his seal to this chirograph to strengthen it further. Witnesses: Sir M. of Tweng, Sayer of Sutton, John of Oketon, Master Gervase sacristan of Beverley, John of Walkington, Matthew of Witton, Thomas of Melsa, Simon son of Osbert, Alen White ("Albo").
