AbstractThe Pevsner Memorial Trust was established in 1985 in order to raise money for a major work of conservation in memory of the architectural historian Sir Nikolaus Pevsner (1902-1983) and the trust chose to conserve the Victorian wall paintings in the church of St Michael at Garton on the Wolds. The wallpaintings by Clayton and Bell, were part of the Victorian restoration of the church 1872-1880 by Sir Tatton Sykes. The interior was conserved between 1986-1991 by Donald Smith and Wolfgang Gartner
